    It’s a great pleasure to welcome all our students to campus! Our team has been busy developing both new and refreshed offerings, and I am incredibly excited to share with you our new Center for Social Impact. Our goal is to prepare and inspire leaders to solve complex social challenges through a multidisciplinary and cross-sector framework. We look forward to working with you to drive change and build a new center of excellence at Michigan!

    Board Fellowship Program Kick-Off

    Prepare for mission-driven leadership with consulting skills and executive experience as a board member of a nonprofit in Southeast Michigan. This multidisciplinary program is open to graduate students in the schools of business, social work, and public policy; a limited number of positions are available to students in the schools of information, public health, and education.

    Attendance at one of the two sessions is mandatory to be considered for the program. Here you’ll review this year’s partner organizations, potential board-level strategic projects, and key application details, including the official student forms. Completed applications are due Sep. 17.

    Serve on the Student Advisory Board

    Be an ambassador for social impact! The Student Advisory Board is our student leadership team with representatives from multiple graduate schools. The Board provides students with an opportunity to accelerate social impact and innovation at U-M while collaborating with their multidisciplinary peers to advise on programming and priorities for the Center. Submit your application by Wed, Sep. 10.

    2014 U-M Social Innovation Summit:
    Finding Purpose, Delivering Impact

    Fri, Oct. 10, 2014: 8:30am-4:00pm

    The 2014 Social Innovation Summit will feature entrepreneur, thought leader, and social innovator Aaron Hurst. Hurst is the Founder of the Taproot Foundation, Founder & CEO of Imperative, and Author of The Purpose Economy. During the summit, leaders from across sectors will reveal how they have found purpose through their careers. Additionally, workshop attendees will engage with social entrepreneurs and thought leaders to discuss and tackle social challenges such as impact investing, water access, food security, and purpose-driven education.

    Student Impact Stories: Financial Tools for the Education Sector

    In her Impact Corps summer consulting internship, Kaitlin Paulson, MBA/MS ’16 leveraged her corporate finance skills while learning about the education sector at KIPP’s TEAM Schools. She created valuable tools to provide access to financial information and enable timely decision-making, including a financial model and leadership dashboard, to support TEAM’s growth as it scales rapidly across New Jersey.

    D:hive’s Build Social Course on Social Entrepreneurship

    Registration is open now for Build Social, which trains, develops, and coaches social entrepreneurs in Detroit’s small business community. The next class runs Wednesdays Oct. 1 – Dec. 3 from 6:00-9:00pm and offers a curriculum with a strong focus on double and triple bottom line business practices.
